Call For Papers: "Workshop on Business and Human Rights – Networks of Transnational Governance" at Hebrew University

Dr. Guy Harpaz, Prof. Sascha-Dominik Bachmann, and Pini Miretski are organizing an exciting  international workshop on Business and Human Rights – Networks of Transnational Governance that will be held on February 19-20, 2014, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. I will be participating as well.

The workshop aims to bring together scholars and practitioners, in order to examine the various interfaces among networks of transnational regulation designed to regulate the respect of businesses for human rights. We shall seek to understand the interfaces and linkages between the various regulative initiatives in this developing field. In the workshop we will question whether emerging networks are replacing the roles previously taken by the state, whether the privatization of regulation is supplied by transnational networks and orchestrated by states, or whether an evolution of polycentric governance is complementing an entrapped international legal order.

The Call for Papers follows.

CALL FOR PAPERS FOR A WORKSHOP - “BUSINESS AND HUMAN RIGHTS – NETWORKS OF TRANSNATIONAL GOVERNANCE”

19-20 FEBRUARY, 2014, THE HEBREW UNIVERSITY (JERUSALEM, ISRAEL)

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: 12 JANUARY 2014

This is a call for papers for an international workshop that will be held in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, on February 19th and 20th, 2014.

In this respect we are seeking proposals on both the theoretical and the practical challenges facing the issue of business and human rights. Topics may include, but are not limited to: international relations and transnational governance, the regulation of business and human rights in regional frameworks, navigating the different and often contradicting responsibilities of businesses in a transnational environment. Please submit to Miretski.pinnipavel@mail.huji.ac.il a 300-word abstract in English with indication of the author(s), their affiliation and full contact information. The deadline for submission of abstracts for the workshop is January 12th, 2014. There will be no registration fee for participants in the workshop. The organizers welcome proposals from scholars at any discipline and any level – PhD students, postdoctoral and more senior researchers alike, as well as practitioners in the field of business and human rights. Researchers and practitioners from developing countries are welcome and we will be able to contribute in part to their accommodation expenses in Jerusalem. We regret that we are unable to provide travel funds for successful applicants. The organizers of this workshop are grateful for the financial and logistical support of The Leonard Davis Institute of International Relations.
